TORONTO, ON | September 26, 2019 – Balzac’s Coffee Roasters, a growing boutique coffee chain providing unique artisanal café experiences, has launched the Biggins Collection — a custom homeware Capsule Collection in collaboration with notable Canadian artist and designer, Kate Golding.

Inspired by the charming spirit of each unique Balzac’s café and the communities they reside in, Kate Golding crafted a custom wallpaper for Balzac’s Powerhouse Café location after being approached by President and Founder Diana Olsen in 2017.

The collaboration has since evolved with the launch of the Biggins Collection — a six-piece collection featuring a 12oz. and 20oz. mug, tote bag, coasters, dish towels and trinket tray. The collection creatively repurposes the unique elements that are widely recognized as part of Kate Golding’s custom wallpaper design for the Balzac’s brand — now used in cafés, on delivery vans and coffee packaging.

“Working with Kate was as delightful as it was effortless on our part,” says Diana Olsen. “She sat in a café one afternoon to soak up some inspiration and with very little direction from me she created a wallpaper pattern that perfectly captured the essence of our brand. It’s fresh, it’s fun and it weaves our history in with who we are today. I couldn’t be more proud to be launching the Biggins Collection as a testament to Kate’s original design.”

The Biggins Collection is just one of Balzac’s many endeavours that reinforces the coffee brand’s ability to successfully combine a worthwhile product, meaningful experience and effective design into one. The launch of this Capsule Collection speaks to Balzac’s passion for championing and partnering with local Canadian designers and artists.

“My creative process behind this custom design for Balzac’s was seamless from the beginning, and it was important to me that the final pattern capture the unique spirit and culture of each café,” says Kate Golding. “This project speaks volumes about the power of creativity and collaboration and it has been an honour to play such an impactful role in the development of the Biggins Collection.”

Named after the infamous biggin coffee pot, the Biggins Collection is a beautifully curated representation of Kate Golding’s original design that Balzac’s customers have grown to know and love. Featuring Kate’s wonderfully charming illustrations of biggin coffee pots, succulents, coffee tree branches with berries and the iconic Balzac ink pot and writing quill, the collection will be available for purchase in cafés and online — officially launching September 26, 2019.
