The Globe and Mail’s Top Growing Companies program recognizes the female-led Canadian coffee roaster for its ambition, innovation, and tremendous business acumen

TORONTO, ON | September 27, 2019 – Balzac’s Coffee Roasters is pleased to announce it placed No. 339 on the inaugural Report on Business ranking of Canada’s Top Growing Companies.

Launched in 2019, Canada’s Top Growing Companies ranks Canadian companies on three-year revenue growth. Balzac’s proudly earned its spot with a three-year growth rate of 68%.

“Since the beginning, our mission at Balzac’s has been to make great coffee more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. I am extremely proud of my team, our partners, and our vendors who all share in this national recognition,” says Diana Olsen, Balzac’s founder and president. “It is an honour to be ranked alongside so many creative and innovative companies as we celebrate excellence in Canadian business.”

The Canada’s Top Growing Companies ranking program aims to celebrate entrepreneurial achievement in Canada by identifying and amplifying the success of growth-minded, independent businesses in Canada.

As a growing boutique coffee chain providing unique artisanal café experiences, Balzac’s Coffee Roasters is celebrating 25 years of serving great coffee to its 14 café communities across Ontario. Since opening its first café in Stratford in 1996, Balzac’s has guided its business practices according to the following four cornerstones: local, natural, sustainable and artisanal.

The coffee roaster’s long term success strategy and leading reputation can be attributed to its ability to combine a worthwhile product, meaningful experience and effective design into a brand that customers deeply value. At the helm is founder and president Diana Olsen — a highly regarded female founder and trailblazer in the coffee roasting industry. Olsen champions sustainable business practices, workplace gender balance, and giving back to the communities Balzac’s serves at every available opportunity.

Along with the Top Growing Company recognition, Balzac’s was recently awarded the prestigious 2019 Pinnacle Award for Regional Company of the Year: Eastern Canada by industry magazine publisher Kostuch Media Ltd. Often referred to as the “Oscars of the industry,” the Pinnacle Awards presented by Kostuch Media Ltd., publisher of Foodservice and Hospitality and Hotelier, is in its 31st year of recognizing the full spectrum of achievements in Canada’s hospitality industry.

The full list of Canada’s Top Growing Companies 2019 winners, and accompanying editorial coverage, is published in the October issue of Report on Business magazine — out now — and online at tgam.ca/TopGrowing.
